As a child West Reading resident Cyrilene Tollafield was diagnosed with Polio, yet it was only recently she began to find it difficult to get in and out of the bath. The solution was a bespoke wet room from Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms.

Cyrilene takes up the story:

“I first met Ray Goodridge many years ago through work, so he’s an old colleague of mine, absolutely brilliant. I bumped into him in town sometime after and we had a chat. Ray told me about his company, Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms, and I thought Ray would be a helpful contact for the future. When I wanted my new wet room designed and installed, I fished his contact details out.

“We were starting with a small room, just a toilet and sink, and what used to be my utility room. We were combining them both to make the new wet room.

“Ray did the design, and although I am quite knowledgeable, I knew about some of the bits I needed because of my disability, he gave me advice on a few things that I had not thought about. We talked during the design process, it was helpful to have an expert guide me, and the wet room design was pretty much spot on what I needed, excellent! 

“The work on my wet room was finalised between Christmas and New Year and it was a painless process for me, the Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms team had access whether I was here or not because they did not really need to be in the main house. They had keys to the gate and could access the wet room. Overall, they worked independently of me.

“Ray came regularly to check what was happening and whether I was happy with what the Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms team were doing, all was fine throughout the build, I would say, excellent even!

“I am incredibly happy with my wet room, I've a drench style shower, the ones that rain down from above, plus a handheld section, like a normal shower head, which I can take off if I just want to wash my hair or shower in specific areas. 

“Having this new wet room has made a huge difference to me. I couldn’t get in and out of the bath upstairs unless my husband was here. It was frustrating waiting for my husband, and sometimes he wouldn’t be available I have a lifelong disability with Polio, and of course it deteriorates; having a wet room installed has given me my independence back.

“I would highly recommend Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms - Ray tells you the truth about what he can and cannot do with the space that you've got, and you discuss everything with you and give you what support you need. I am totally happy with the work, in fact, I have showers just to use it!

“I know my disability, I have lived with it all my life and if Ray wasn’t any good, he would not have been in my house. I know what I need for my disability, and he was able to help.

“I've actually had neighbours come in to have a look, and I think Test Valley Kitchens and Bathrooms are probably going to have some work to do for them soon!”
